Short answer: To rank in local search, claim and verify your Google Business Profile, choose the right primary category, fill in every field, add real photos, collect and reply to reviews, keep your name, address and phone consistent everywhere, post updates, and link to a fast website with a page for each service and location.

For clinics, restaurants, salons, repair shops and any business with local customers, Google Maps is often more important than regular search results.

What decides local rankings

Google says local results depend mainly on:

  • Relevance: how well your profile matches the search
  • Distance: how close you are to the searcher
  • Prominence: how well known and well reviewed you are

You can’t move your shop, but you can improve relevance and prominence.

Step 1: Claim and verify

Search for your business on Google Maps or go to Google Business Profile and add or claim it. Verification may be by video, phone, email or postcard depending on the business.

Step 2: Fill in everything

  • Business name: your real name, no keyword stuffing
  • Primary category: the most important choice. Be specific (“Dental clinic”, not “Health”)
  • Secondary categories for other services
  • Address or service area
  • Phone, WhatsApp and website
  • Opening hours, including holidays
  • Services and products with descriptions and prices if possible
  • Business description in plain language

Step 3: Photos

Add real photos of your storefront, interior, team, products and work. Update them regularly. Businesses with good photos get more calls and direction requests.

Step 4: Reviews

  • Ask every happy customer, with a direct review link or QR code
  • Reply to every review, good and bad, politely
  • Never buy or fake reviews

Step 5: Posts and updates

Share offers, events, new products and updates. It keeps your profile active and gives customers reasons to choose you.

Step 6: NAP consistency

Your Name, Address and Phone should be identical on your website, Google, Facebook, Instagram, directories and anywhere else. Inconsistencies confuse Google.

Step 7: Your website

Your profile links to your website, and Google uses both. Make sure the site has:

  • Your address and map on the contact page
  • A page for each main service
  • LocalBusiness schema markup
  • Fast mobile loading (Core Web Vitals)
