# How to Avoid Schedule Clashes on IULMS
// iqra university ยท timetable optimization
There is nothing worse during Iqra University course registration than carefully selecting your subjects, only to realize that your classes overlap or you are stuck on campus from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM with massive dead gaps.
Because the standard IULMS interface just lists courses in a table, spotting time clashes requires manual mapping. Here is how to fix it.
## The Manual Way: Mapping Timings
If you want to build your schedule manually before hitting register on IULMS, follow these steps:
- Step 1: Check Prerequisites. Make sure you have cleared the required courses for the subjects you want. If a prerequisite is locked, IULMS will block registration anyway.
- Step 2: Draw a Grid. Grab a piece of paper. Write Monday to Friday across the top, and hours (8 AM to 6 PM) down the side.
- Step 3: Block out timings. Write down the exact start and end times for the theory classes AND the labs. Labs are usually the biggest cause of overlaps.
### Watch out for "Dead Hours"
A clash isn't just when classes overlap. A "Trap Schedule" is when you have a class at 8:30 AM, and your next class isn't until 2:30 PM. You lose your entire day waiting on campus. Try to group your classes back-to-back or with a maximum 1-hour lunch break.
## The 1-Click Solution
Instead of writing times down on paper, you can use our free scheduling engine.
> Click "Add" on the courses you want
> View the auto-generated visual grid
> ERROR: SEN251 clashes with CSC333 on Monday.
The tool will instantly show you your balance score, calculate your dead hours, and flash red if you schedule two classes at the same time.
